“I’ve been inspired by the rough, tactile art of vinyl and cassette covers, the early visual effects of VHS tapes, and the sensory-rich video game graphics found in arcades and comics...”
Dylan is a former graphic designer turned tattooist from the Llyn Peninsula in North Wales who has been drawing and creating artwork his whole life.
He grew up surrounded by the ocean and mountains, as a result the sea, nature and the culture of Wales have remained a constant inspiration throughout his creative life.
He is also a child of the 80s and 90s and was blessed to be bombarded with all the exciting visual elements and whimsy of that era which also feature heavily in his creative ideas. From the tactile, low-brow art adorning the covers of vinyl and cassettes, the visual effects of early VHS tapes to the sensory-overload of video game art in arcades and graphic novels.
“He spent many years working in the graphic design industry, creating such things as album covers for bands, artwork for merchandise, promotional print material and online visual design for large companies before seeking a new challenge and more creative freedom in tattooing.”
Dylan is also an accomplished musician and when not drawing usually has a guitar in his hands. He has been a member of several UK based bands since his teenage years and is actively performing with his band in Finland. He is a fan of Hard rock, metal and blues, genres which also find their way into his visual ideas and he can ‘talk guitar or art’ all day with like-minded people. He likes learning for the sake of learning and especially enjoys being introduced to new music, culture and artists.
My first artistic memory
“His earliest artistic memories are of seeing the artwork on his dad’s ‘70s hard rock vinyl and starting to duplicate them as best he could, which he maintains was the very beginning of his artistic journey and also form part of the basis for the beginning of his tattoo journey.”
